About Buying Work

Buying handmade furniture is unlike most other purchases we make in contemporary society.

You are engaging in a transaction where the focus is on great design, on high-quality sustainably sourced materials, on skilled work using craft processes, and a relationship with Ross and his studio community. Of course working in this way takes time, the furniture equivalent of "slow food".

There are two pathways to getting furniture made in the Ross Annels studio.

The first is to have a piece of furniture "made to order" based on our pre-existing designs. In this case we need to discuss timbers and fabrics, and after taking a 1/3 deposit we place you on our order book. Typically our waiting list is 6-12 months from taking an order to delivering your work.

The second approach is having something made "just for you". This bespoke approach is a now a very unusual process, and takes considerable time and effort.

Ideally, if you are interested in having some furniture designed and made, we meet at my studio and or my Eumundi market stand, and then later I will visit your home.  Sometimes this isn't possible, and we need to gather together a range of materials that will help me to understand where the furniture is going to, and your needs, tastes and aspirations. On the basis of these I will prepare concept drawings or models of furniture, which we then discuss, which will eventually become your new furniture.
